Without a doubt, the events of January 1, 1959 marked a turning point in Cuban history. The date has become the before and after in the centuries-old struggles of the island, and 46 years later, it has reached a meaning that was not even dreamed of when it occurred.This anniversary wraps up a year that was characterized not only by increasing US hostility, but also by a strengthening of the unity, resilience and the trust of the Cuban people in the historic leadership of the Revolution, represented by President Fidel Castro.
