"Zimbabwe: Court upholds land reform"
IN a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court yesterday upheld the land acquisition laws enacted by Parliament putting to rest the fight by many commercial farmers to get back land acquired by the Government for resettlement.Justice Luke Malaba made the ruling in a constitutional test case by a commercial farmer, Mr George Pretorius Quinnel, who challenged the validity of the laws when the Government acquired his farm.
Although the court accepted that there was a violation of Standing Order 127 of Parliament in the enactment of the land acquisition laws, as charged by Mr Quinnel, this was of a technical nature.
