"Bravo, WHO, But Be More Proactive in Africa"
When the deadly avian virus, H5N1, hit parts of Asia last year, the global response championed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) was unprecedented.Mobilising personnel and resources and co-ordinating tests in laboratories in places as far-flung as Canada and Singapore, the WHO was able to blunt the spread of the bird flu virus, probably averting an epidemic of global proportions. Some commentators even termed the reponse WHO's finest hour.
