"OAS not involved in Aristide ouster investigation"
AFTER MONTHS of uncertainty Cesar Gaviria, secretary-general of the Organisation of American States (OAS), says his organisation is not involved in any investigation of the recent ouster of former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide.Despite declarations by Foreign Affairs Minister K.D. Knight in parliament several weeks ago that the OAS, in keeping with Article 20 of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, had passed a resolution calling for a probe into Aristide's departure from office, Mr. Gaviria said no investigations involving the OAS are on the horizon. It would be better, he said, if the region tried to move beyond the issue as quickly as possible.
