THAT OTHER SLAVE TRADE: ENSLAVED AFRICANS IN ARABIA,
IRAQ, INDIA AND PAKISTAN--A SLIDE PRESENTATION/LECTURE
BY RUNOKO RASHIDI

Co-sponsored by the African Remembrance Day Committee

The devastating impact of the Translatlantic slave
trade is widely discussed, but the facts of that other
slave trade to North Africa, Southwest Asia and parts
of the Far East are not as well known. An overview
and assessment will be made about the nature, history
and impact of enslaved Africans on the societies of
the Arabian Peninsula, Iraq, India and Pakistan.

You will hear from an African perspective the exploits
of the African multi-genius Al-Jahiz, the deeds of
Antar, the revolts of the Zanj, the great and mighty
insurrection of enslaved Africans in ninth century
Iraq, the Sheedis of Pakistan, the Siddis of India and
the fabled exploits of Malik Ambar in India's Gujarat
Province.
