Getting along is not a guarantee of anything. There is an optimum level of conflict that facilitates development and learning. Even if ones were reasoning in person they might not say exactly wat they think and this would impede their understanding of certain things.
Conflict is not at all bad, and it is by being exposed to differing views that people can learn best. The poor conduct that arises from time to time is understandable given the fact that people just aren't exposed to mediums of true education and thus are generally very misinformed. The ideas that get thrown out here are not discussed in mainstream media, and some of the most basic of them would cause much controversy in the mainstream, especially as all socialization mechanisms reinforce the ignorance of the masses.
