my statement (african person)
-I can always arrange, (and i always do) to be in the company of other Africans, African Americans.
-If I choose to move, dependent on my 'credit-history,' and finances i can move in whatever neighborhood I desire. I have chosen to live in a predominately african neighborhood. if i so desired i could move to a 'white-neighborhood.'
-i can not be 'sure' of anything. there are dangerous areas in my neighborhood. however, i would say though that for the most part my neighborhhod is peaceful and my neighbors cordial.
-myself and my wife are quite comfortable shopping alone. iani refuse to be 'afaid of our own people. I can not guaranttee that i will not be followed or harassed.
-I can turn on the television, change the channel to the appropriate station and I will see people of my race. many people of my race that are on tv, i do not particularly identify w/ however, it is a fact that i can turn on the tv and see people of my race.
-When I am told about our national heritage or about "civilization," I KNOW THAT MY PEOPLE (AFRICANS)CONTRIBUTED GREATLY IN BUILDING THE EARLIEST CIVILIZATIONS, WRITING THE 1ST BOOKS AS WELL AS ESTABLISHING SPIRITUAL SYSTEMS THAT ARE INTACT TO THIS DAY.
-I can be sure that my children will be given curricular materials that testify to the existence of their race. If they are not given this info in school (my daughter is), she would receive this information in the home.
-If I want to, I can be pretty sure of finding a publisher for this piece on white/black privilege. I am publishing the information as we speak on Rastafari Speaks message board. If I did not have this forum, I could at the very least type up my thoughts, take my disc to Kinkos, copy and distribute my material to those with whom I felt could benefit from my writings.
-I own the music and art shop (seven seals Music/columbus Ohio). Its full of blessed music (composed by:african american, caribeean, african, latin artists) books art, etc. when i am in the mood for 'strictly african food, i forward to my bredrin ethiopian restaurant for injera an lentils, or to my sister from sierra leone's restaurant/grocery store for some fufu and veggie stew. don't need to go to hairdresser, as i am livicated to the tenets of the nazarene vow which prohibits iani from taking a razor to i crown, hence i havent had a need for a haridresser in 10+ years.
