"“Afrika in the head” and “Afrika before the eyes” … He realised -- and I also had noticed this about him before, somehow -- that he still had many miles to go, before he could get out of that “complex” completely … When he told me these things, honest as we are to each other in our friendship, I told him I was grateful that he told me this, for I know very well that especially such (NEGATIVE) feelings are what whites can be very good at concealing … (from themselves, though!)"
Extremely good point. White people are indoctrinated to feel certain ways about people of color and it is only reinforced by media imagery. On top of this, the poverty and corruption within the inner cities turns many a black youth into a thug. So when white people look at the inner city black youth seemingly acting out all the stereotypes they were taught about these people, it only acts as a re-enforcement of those deeply held low level subconscious feelings instilled from youth. This is from my personal experience.
