Actually, that source got it mixed up. It is when the triangle points UP that it represents materialism- that is why you have the banks having a triangle in their logo. When it points downwards, as in the famous Rastafarian gesture then you have SPIRITUALITY.
This symbol can be traced to King David- hence the Hebrew term, Mogen David- shield of David. With the intersecting triangles- it represents the balance between the physical and the spiritual. Remember His Imperial Majesty's speech in which He stressed the importance of mainatining that balance?
