You are right, the wife of a very wealthy and influencial man is generally called are look upon as a lady, for lady is a title which is reserved for the rich and arrogant women.
In the early days when british Governors used to
used to rule Jamaica, their wives were given the title lady and this is still very common in these racist societies.
