Greetings,
I man noticed the original post here by Bantu-Kelani had this air of aloof benevolance, such as one might find in a kindergarden teacher whose interest in children was strictly professional.
I man notice the way people, especially strong Rastafari bredren are talked down to for not being "academic" and basing arguments on emotions. The buzzword lately seems to be "knee jerk reaction".
Do you really think, as Rastafari we don't know bout the dirty slavery, racism, and evil which goes on? You act as if we are all a bunch of ignorant children who have never been exposed to the reality of this world. Well, the truth is, some of us try not to over-itellectualize and talk in circles about trying to meet Babylon head-on. Instead, some of us prefer to be subversive and take a more spiritually based approach in which the struggle demands as many allies as possible. Can you really fault people for this?
What is divisive is not reasoning on colorism and racism and white priveledge. The divisivness comes when ones deem themselves fit to decide who leads a movement which they are not part of. The divisness comes when there is black vs. black, black vs. conscious white, etc. This is not reasoning, and it is counterintuitive to the daily problems we all face. Because people wish to move FORWARD instead of dwelling on the last few hundred years which CANNOT be changed, people like Rookzka wish to move on, to ensure it never happens again, and to educate whites who wish to learn instead of alienating the. Believe you me, there are enough ignorant people of all races who can care less about Africa, Rastafari, and Racism, so why nit pick those who do to the point they no longer wish to participate in discussion. Now, I have come to see that some of the moderators and some of the posters fashion themselves as some kind of omnicient teachers who have all the answers and can never be wrong. Unfortunately, knowledge is a two way street, and some humility and a humble attitude wouldn't hurt. The only omnicient one is the Almighty, remember that.
Oh, as a sidenote, it is not really groundbreaking news that some people consider Selassie I a despotic ruler while some of us consider him to be Jah Almighty, it is just strange to see the former attitude on a site called Rastafari Speaks, very misleading.
Bless up.
