Re: A Question of phenotype!
In Response To: Re: A Question of phenotype! ()

You said: "but we have fallen so in love with designations that our former slavemaster has imposed on us that we will go in extremes to defend them."

You were around when I explained the origin of the word ‘negro’ on the older board when one poster frequently used the word in his contribution/articles, so you know my position on that.

However, I am not convinced that you are unaware of the serious point that Kelani and I are making.

Kelani qualified the use of ‘negro’ in the face of no widely acceptable word that brings to mind the type of people she is deliberately speaking about. You are suggesting that she create a word, and even if that is possible it is not the point of her presentations.

I find it ridiculous for anyone to be attempting to distract from the merit of presentations simply because they dislike one word that is used with a reasonable explanation/qualifier.

You said: "Why is it so important to Bantu-Kelani, who is otherwise quite reasonable, to defend a designation which was imposed on us with her last breath?"

In light of her explanations, which I find rather reasonable, I find your insistence on her making a change at YOUR timing to be harsh and distractive to some extent. I think you made your point and in many regards you already know my position on ‘negro’ but I doubt that I can dismiss the validity in the argument presented simply because I prefer we coin another word. Until this is done then I will pay attention to how the word is used before I publicly agree or disagree. The context is important.
