While I agree that the word 'Negro' carries a negative connotation given its history (I have explained this several times on these boards). I am aware of another concern in these reasonings.
I have not found a word that portrays the type of people who feel the brunt of racism. Simply saying Blacks and Africans today, especially over the Internet, does not convey a clear picture of the type of Africans who are considered most undesirable by the 'western system' (even within Africa) and among many who claim African today.
Images of the range of kinky hair type Africans are not properly conveyed when African is used in many quarters. To use a word most people are unfamiliar with can leave a contribution void of the imagery of one's conviction.
It is for this reason I stopped making much over the use of the word once it is in an anthropological sense especially when used with the necessary qualifiers.
Can you give a more appropriate widely recognizable word that conveys the picture of the dark-skinned kinky hair type African?
