and all who reason here,

the study of communities, particularly what are called 'intentional communities' is my thing at the moment. As for why the rasta communities do not seem to be flourishing, all that I can say is that very few communities do. The only real exceptions to this norm are people like the amish, the bruderhof, and to a lesser extent the israeli kibbutz.

It is a phenomenally difficult thing to survive economically, deal with often hostile or suspicious neighbours, and most importantly, to get over a life-times conditioning to be self-interested and learn to act cooperatively.

Few have managed it, but that is not saying the same thing as that it is impossible. Even though most attempts at founding a new livity fail, some survive. And it takes time. Babylon didn't just spring into existence overnight, fully formed and perfect. And neither will any of the alternatives to babylon. It will take generations of trial and error to come even close to realising the rasta livity at the scale of an entire community.

But it all has to start somewhere, someone has to be the pioneer...
