War and Terror: Luis Clemente Faustino Posada Carriles

Cuba and Castro Small Fish in a Pond of Murderous Sharks

    By Kurt Nimmo, kurtnimmo.com

Forget Abu Faraj al-Libbi, the guy who went out for al-Qaeda's coffee, and consider Luis Clemente Faustino Posada Carriles, a verified terrorist and former CIA agent who blew up an airplane (Cubana Airlines flight 455, killing 73 passengers), planted bombs in Cuban hotels, was involved in the murder of two Cuban officials in Argentina in August 1976, participated in plans to assassinate Cuban officials in Chile and assassinate Fidel Castro. If Carriles was Muslim, had blown up an American passenger plane, was involved in the murder of U.S. officials, bombing hotels, and had plotted to kill Bush, Special Forces and the CIA would be looking high and low for him, would likely attempt to kill him with a Predator drone, armed with Hellfire missiles, the same way the CIA killed Qaed Salim Sinan al-Harethi (described as a lowly al-Qaeda bodyguard) in northwest Yemen in early November, 2002.

But Posada is no al-Harethi or even Osama bin Laden. He was a member of Brigade 2506, a group of 1200 Cubans, trained under U.S. military direction, commanded by CIA agent Grayston Lynch and CIA operative William Robertson, who invaded Cuba on April 17, 1961, a violation of Article 2 and Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, as well as Articles 18 and 25 of the Charter of the Organization of American States, and Article 1 of the Rio Treaty (see Cuban History: U.S. Bay of Pigs Invasion).

Posada "sneaked into the United States in March, according to his Miami lawyers and Cuban exile friends. He wants political asylum after years of allegedly targeting Cuban soft targets and Castro himself in a futile effort to end the communist dictator's rule over the Caribbean island," reports ABC News. "U.S. officials appear conflicted as to how to handle the Posada issue, insisting they are not even sure he is in the country, despite what his lawyers and friends say."

It really shouldn't be difficult—Posada is a terrorist and should be arrested, put on trial, convicted, and sent to prison. Of course, this will not happen because Posada has "still-strong links with powerful Cuban-American Bush supporters in Florida, where the president's brother Jeb is governor." In other words, Posada is untouchable. Jeb will not alienate the fanatical and fascist anti-Castro Cubans in Florida. In fact, as Larry Chin and others have documented, the Bush clan has a tight relationship with fascist Cubans. "Bush and fellow CIA operative Felix Rodriguez organize and train [in 1960-1961] Cuban exiles in Florida and across the Gulf region for an invasion of Cuba, and the assassination of Fidel Castro, with assistance from elements of the Mafia (based in Florida)," Chin writes. Of course, the Bay of Pigs invasion was a wash after Kennedy withdrew his support and soon thereafter he was assassinated.

Considering the Bush crime family fondness for violent and fascist anti-Castro Cubans, there is a good chance Posada will be granted asylum, albeit on the Q.T. and out of the media spotlight. In late August, 2004, two months before the election, "Guillermo Novo Sampol, Pedro Remon and Gaspar Jimenez [Posada co-conspirators], received a hero's welcome in the United States. After a quick flight from Panama aboard a private jet, the men flashed victory signs and smiled to a swarm of cameras in a Miami airport while U.S. authorities looked on," writes Marcela Sanchez for the Washington Post. No, U.S. authorities did not arrest the men, they simply "looked on," even though the men were convicted and sentenced in Panama for terrorist crimes. "Posada has now followed his compatriots back to the United States, albeit surreptitiously from Mexico," write Jerry Meldon and Robert Parry. "Posada's lawyer Eduardo Soto has said his client will soon come out of hiding and seek asylum from the U.S. government. Federal immigration officials say they might reject Posada's asylum request, but are unlikely to deport him to any country where he would face prosecution for terrorism…. A thorough investigation of Posada also could prove embarrassing for the Bush family, since the Cubana Airline bombing was part of a wave of right-wing terrorism that occurred in 1976 under the nose of then-CIA Director George H.W. Bush. If Posada ever told his full story, he might shed unwelcome light on how much the senior George Bush knew about the terrorist attacks in 1976 and the Iran-Contra operation a decade later, where Posada also showed up."

In other words, regardless of Bush's highfalutin talk about chasing down terrorists and bringing them to justice, certain terrorists are immune (especially those who worked for the CIA and have troublesome links to the Bush crime family) while others, particularly Muslims (many with no connection to terrorism), are to be killed by way of Hellfire missile or tortured to death in shipping containers at the Bagram AFB in Afghanistan (or for that matter at Abu Gharib in Iraq or elsewhere in Bush's global gulag).

But then there are terrorists and terrorism facilitators at the highest level of the Bush administration, from Otto Reich (anti-Castro fanatic implicated in the Iran-Contra scandal) to John Negroponte (key player in supplying and supervising the CIA-backed mercenaries in Nicaragua and organizing death squads) and Elliott Abrams (guilty in 1991 to lying to Congress over the conduct of the terrorist war against Nicaragua). The US-financed so-called "Contra war" in Nicaragua killed an estimated 50,000 people (out of a population of around 5 million) and resulted in a billion dollars of economic damage. Considering this, Luis Clemente Faustino Posada Carriles and his murderous confederates are sincerely small fish in a pond with a few truly pernicious sharks on the prowl.
