"Those who did fought the Indians"
Imperialist "speak"; "fought": joined the conquerors, invaders and thieves to conquer, invade and steal the land from the rightful owners: "Indians"; a derogatory name given to the rightful owners by the conquerors, invaders and thieves.
I am a conquered, invaded and stolen peeoples.
N.B. couldnot fail to see the imperialist colours of red white and blue flying and on a cowboys back.
Carry on with your story regardless, it is nontheless fascinating to observe a different viewpoint as always.
Peace, Judah
